Assuming we have already set the K2 CCK (Content Construction Kit) on your website & have provided you with back end admin user details, please follow these steps to add/edit basic content into your site. Your site catagories and setting will have already been set up by ConCom as per your instructions.
- Navigate to your back-end www.yoursite.com/administrator and input your supplied username & password.
- REMEMBER - Once in the back end do not use your Browser to navigate back or forward. Only use the buttons set out within the back end.
- If all OK you should see a screen similar to that below
- If you dont see a similar screen then you can access the K2 CCk Component by following the menu links Components > K2 as per the image below.
- To add a new content click on “add new item”. to edit previously added content click on the “item” box and locate your previous content/items.
- Once your in the K2 Component. To get back to the main screen follow the menu links site>control panel to back to the main screen after you logged in.
- Within the component itself you can navigate around the items, new items, etc by its own menubar at the top.
- After selecting new item, you will be presented with a screen, where you can input your content - see screen shots below.
-
Note - Clicking apply will save your current work without closing the screen. It is good practice to get in the habbit of clicking apply as if you accidently navigate away, when you get back to the content screen all will be lost!
- In Box1 we advise to only make alterations to “Author & Publishing Status” & “MetaData Info” The other tabs have been manually set to work the same way for all your content.
-
Author & Publishing
- you can change the auther name, if you are adding content on behalf of someone else, then you add there name in the auther alias box, otherwise leave blank
- Access level will be left at public unless you want to restrict the content to registered users of your site only!
- You can alter the start and finish dates of the content if you wish, so if it is content to stay on the site you would leave this alone.
- You can write the content up and change the start publishing date to a future date, where the content will not be seen on your site until, that time and date.
- Same with the finish publishing - this is useful to display offers that are only on for a week or 2.
-
MetaData Info
- This is information that will be picked up by search engines.
- Add a short, to the point description with good use of keywords relevant to the content
- Add no more that 10 keywords or phrases seperated by a comma
- Leave robots & author alone.
- In Box2 you will see spaces for Title, Title Alias, Tags, Published, etc
- Title - Make sure you give it a good rekevant title.
- Title Alias - You can add a different alias if you wish, this will be spotted by serach engines
- Select the catagory - Even if you only have one catagory to add to.
- Tags - add tags with commas relevant to the content. for example if the content was about Apple pies, you could tag - Apple, Pies, Apple Pies. This will help your user find relevent content in the future and again good for search engines.
- Below you will see another box with a basic content editor. here you can type in your cotent or copy and paste it from word proccessing software on your compter.
- Some styling maybe lost so check it through before publishing.
- The basic editor has spell checker, font adjustments, etc and if your used to using word or pages then this should be fairly simple to use.
- At bottom of content editor you will see 2 buttons.
- Image - is where you can easily upload images for your content - make sure the image has been prepared on you local computer for web as you dont want a huge image within your contact that may take a long time to load up on a users computer.
- Readmore - If your are writing a large blog or content then after the first few lines you will want to add a readmore line. this will allow the user to read the first fewlines of your article, without clogging up the whole screen. If the want to read more then they hit the read more button where they will then see the rest of the content.
-
Once Your finished dont forget to Click Save, or Save & New if you are too get stuck into more content immidiatley.
